AI news: Gemini 4 Argon arrives, GPT-4o leaves the API, Claude builds live dashboards
Google releases Gemini 4 Argon at an introductory price until 30 November, OpenAI retires GPT-4o and GPT-4.1 from its API on 14 January 2027, and Claude gains live dashboards.
This week shows something businesses tend to overlook: new models arrive and old ones leave. Google released its strongest model, OpenAI announced the end of models that many existing integrations still run on, and Anthropic moved Claude closer to company data.
Google: Gemini 4 Argon opens to developers and businesses
On 13 October Google made Gemini 4 Argon globally available through the API in AI Studio and on the Gemini platform. The model was announced on 30 September but had only been open to a small group of cyber security defenders. On 14 October Google Cloud confirmed it is also available in Gemini for business on web, desktop and mobile.
Who gets it:
- developers on the paid tier of the Gemini API, as model ID gemini-4-argon;
- Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search;
- AI Ultra subscribers also in Google Antigravity.
The price is introductory: USD 2 per million input tokens and USD 10 per million output tokens, with cached input 95% cheaper. After 30 November 2026 it rises to USD 4 and USD 20. Google highlights a single one-million-token limit shared by input, thinking and output. The model targets long tasks in coding, finance, law and security. Google says it asks for confirmation before irreversible steps and states clearly when it could not finish something. The benchmark figures come from Google itself, so test them on your own work.
OpenAI: GPT-4o and GPT-4.1 leave the API on 14 January 2027
On 14 October OpenAI announced that it will remove four models from its API: GPT-4o (the 6 August and 20 November 2024 versions), GPT-4o mini, GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini. The shutdown date is 14 January 2027. OpenAI recommends gpt-6-luna as the replacement for all four. Fine-tuned versions shut down on the same day as their base models.
This affects many chatbots, email assistants and automations built in 2024 and 2025. After that date, calls to the old models will fail.
Anthropic: Claude builds dashboards and animated explainers
On 8 October Anthropic introduced Dashboards in beta on paid plans. Claude turns data into a dashboard that updates when the data changes. It connects to platforms such as BigQuery, Databricks, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift and ClickHouse, and to Salesforce. Clicking any number shows the query behind it, and every chart shows when it was last refreshed.
Team and Enterprise plans also get Motion in beta: short animated explainers from a text prompt, exported as MP4. Both features are off by default and an admin switches them on.
Docs, Slides and Design are out of beta, available on every plan including Free, and switched on by default from 15 October.
For developers, OpenTelemetry export arrived in beta on 14 October. Messages API calls and Claude Managed Agents sessions can now be traced in the monitoring tool a company already uses.
What it means for your business
- List every integration that runs on GPT-4o or GPT-4.1. Each one has to move to a newer model by 14 January 2027. Plan time for testing, because a new model does not always answer the way the old one did.
- Try Argon while the introductory price lasts. Until 30 November it costs half. That is a good moment to compare it with the model you use today, on your own documents.
- Reports no longer need to be built by hand. If your data already sits in a database or CRM, a dashboard that refreshes itself can replace the weekly spreadsheet report.
