B2B website rebuild: what to settle before design and estimates
A rebuild is not a design contest. It changes a sales and information system. When goals, existing search signals and editorial ownership are unclear, the result is often a better-looking site with the same business problems.

Start with business tasks
Define what each important audience needs to understand and do. Procurement looks for different evidence from a technical decision-maker, and a careers page has different success signals from a service page.
Those tasks shape navigation, page types and conversion paths. Only then can design and CMS requirements be judged properly.
Treat SEO migration as core scope
Inventory existing URLs, organic traffic, links and indexed content before the rebuild. Valuable pages are retained or permanently redirected to the closest relevant destination.
Information architecture, internal links, canonicals, hreflang and sitemaps should be tested before launch. Sending every old URL to the homepage removes useful context.
Define success before launch
A rebuild needs business criteria alongside speed and correctness: qualified enquiries, demo bookings, downloads or completed applications. Analytics and consent therefore belong in project scope.
Do not judge only the first few days. Seasonality, campaigns and search engine reprocessing require an appropriate comparison window.
Pre-estimate rebuild checklist
- Prioritised audiences and tasks
- Inventory of existing URLs, rankings and backlinks
- Named owners for content and approvals
- CMS, integration and privacy requirements
- Measurement plan and acceptance criteria
